Science behind nurturing

A close relationship between child-caregiver is the best way to nourish a child’s growing brain.

A close relationship between child-caregiver is the best way to nourish a child’s growing brain.

Because an infant brain’s is profoundly influenced by the attachment bond because it’s a baby’s first love relationship. Supportive, nurturing emotional interactions with infants and young children help the central nervous system grow appropriately. Listening to the human voice, for eg, helps babies learn to distinguish sounds and develop language. Exchanging gestures helps babies perceive and respond to emotional cues and form a sense of self. Holding, cuddling, and talking to the child stimulate brain growth and promote emotional development. When a caregiver plays with and sings, speaks, reads or tells a story to the child, nurtures the child with healthy food, love and affection, the child’s brain grows.

According to the Center of the Developing Child at Harvard University, “early experiences affect the development of brain architecture which provides the foundation for all future learning, behavior, and health.

This kind of early bonding and attachment to the mother, father or other close caregiver helps a child develop a broad range of abilities to use and build upon throughout life. These include the ability to: learn, be self-confident and have high self-esteem, have positive social skills, have successful relationships at later ages, and develop a sense of empathy.#
